A Master Mix Concrete Case Study
Background
We’re currently working on an exciting project just off the M1 & A5, in the north of Dunstable. This site is part of a significant development that will see over 30 new properties in this phase alone. With more planned for the surrounding areas, it’s a busy and dynamic site.
Requirement
Our task? To deliver over 500m³ of our special FND2 mix – a sulphate resistant concrete that’s perfect for this job. We’re on a tight schedule, pouring between 60-80m³ per day with no gaps between trucks. We’re all about consistency and smooth operations. Some pours are straightforward from the roadside with extension chutes, but others require our concrete line pumps. It’s all about meeting those daily targets.
Constraints and Challenges
The site’s location presents a unique set of challenges. It’s situated on loose ground which caused some unexpected cave-ins during excavation. We had to quickly adjust our plans, adding more concrete loads to keep the project on schedule. The site’s isolation from busy areas means fewer restrictions, but it still needs careful coordination to keep everything running smoothly.
Techniques and Hardware Used
We’re using our modern fleet of Remier ProAll mixers and the Cifa PC506D concrete pump for this job. The pump ensures we can pour just as fast as if we were straight pouring, keeping us on time even on the pumped stages. We’re using satellite maps to plan our daily operations, setting up and pouring locations 24 hours in advance to avoid delays.
Conclusion
Despite the challenges, we’re keeping things moving and the project is progressing smoothly. We’re proving that we can adapt and problem-solve in real-time to keep everything on track.
